COnovate Secures $1 Million in Federal Funding for Critical Materials Innovation

COnovate Wauwatosa Secures DOE Funding for Critical Materials Innovation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wauwatosa, WI – December 10, 2024 – COnovate is excited to announce its selection by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO) as part of the Critical Materials Accelerator program. This prestigious award includes $1 million in federal funding to accelerate the development, scaling and validation of COnovate’s patented eCOphite active anode material, a groundbreaking bio-sourced alternative to battery-grade graphite in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs).

The DOE’s Critical Materials Accelerator program aims to enhance U.S. manufacturing competitiveness and supply chain security by advancing innovative solutions to critical materials challenges. The program focuses on fostering industry partnerships, validating sustainable technologies, and addressing the demand for critical materials in high-impact energy supply chains such as batteries, wind turbines, and semiconductors.

COnovate’s project will deliver on tehse objectives with a domestically sourced advanced caron anode material for batteries. In partnership with Pacific Industrial Development Corporation, XALT Energy, Applied Catalyst, and Argonne National Laboratory, COnovate will demonstrate the scalability and performance of its eCOphite material in commercially relevant battery formats and sizes.

“COnovate is thrilled to collaborate with the DOE and our talented project partners to address the critical challenges of sustainable energy storage,” said Carol Hirschmugl, CEO of COnovate. “This funding will enable us to scale our innovative eCOphite technology, delivering advanced performance for lithium-ion batteries while reducing reliance on scarce resources and high-risk geographies.”

The project underscores COnovate’s commitment to driving innovation in energy storage solutions and supporting the transition to a secure, sustainable energy future.

About COnovate
COnovate’s focus is on reshaping the anode material supply chain for lithium-ion batteries with a clean, higher performing advanced carbon material.  This material is made from bio-sourced feedstock mitigating current dependencies on high-risk geographies for graphite, while offering improved performance, safety and seamless adoption with current manufacturing infrastructure and battery designs. The Company is seeking manufacturing partners and investment to scale this eCOphite material and complete validation with its collaborators.
